Sephardi Jews (Hebrew: ספרדי‎, Standard Səfaradi Tiberian Səp̄arədî; plural ספרדים, Standard Səfaradim Tiberian Səp̄arədîm; Spanish Sefardíes; Portuguese Sefarditas, Greek Σεφάρδοι, Bulgarian сефаради sefaradi, Turkish Sefarad, Ladino Sefardies) are Jews who define themselves in terms of the Jewish customs and traditions which originated in the Iberian Peninsula, present day Spain, Portugal, Andorra and Gibraltar, before the expulsion of Jews from that area in the late fifteenth century, and usually defined in contrast to Ashkenazi and Mizrahi Jews.
