HM Plant was founded in 1979 with a aim to become a leading dealership for Excavators in the UK. The company started as a sub-dealer distributing Hitachi's range of Japanese built hydraulic excavators in compertion to the UK brands of JCB and Hymac. The company then in 1980 being appointed Hitachi’s official UK importer. HM plant was originally based in Somerset, but in 2004 HM Plant relocated to a purpose-built facility at Hebburn, South Tyneside on a seven acre site with better access via the North Sea ports from Hitachies factories in Amsterdam and Japan.
