abstract
  • Jennifer Moon was elected to Parliament in 2866. Her husband, Horace, was elected four years earlier. Despite living in a constituency that wouldn't normally vote SDP, Moon was easily reelected. On May 1, 2867, Moon and Mark Gold won the party leadership elections. However, they were not elected President and Vice President until six years later. About 13 months into his term of office, Gold suffered a massive stroke which soon leads to his death, causing Moon to succeed to the presidency. However, prior to his death, Gold and key figures in the Social Democratic Party urged Moon to resign her office before Gold's death so that Gifford Rothschild would instead be in line for the presidency in the event of Gold's death. Gold would have had to resign, if he had survived, to receive treatment, and would have been paralyzed. His absence would be for well over a year. The cabinet was afraid of having a moderate as President, and all urged Moon to resign. Gold refused to resign before Moon, while he is still alive. Moon, after thinking about it, had her Communication Director draft a resignation speech. However, she ultimately decided to remain in office. Moon quickly allied herself with Prime Minister David Troxler. On July 9, 2874, Moon and Troxler won the party leadership elections and just a week later officially won the Presidency and Vice Presidency. Despite increasing tensions with the cabinet, Moon allowed all of the members to keep their positions. This stayed true until August 2879 when she fired her entire cabinet.
