The 1984 French Grand Prix (officially LXX Grand Prix de France) was the fifth round of the 1984 Formula One Season. The race was held on May 20th 1984 at the Circuit de Dijon-Prenois in Burgundy, eastern France. It is, to date, the last F1 race held at the circuit.   • The 1984 French Grand Prix (officially LXX Grand Prix de France) was the fifth round of the 1984 Formula One Season. The race was held on May 20th 1984 at the Circuit de Dijon-Prenois in Burgundy, eastern France. It is, to date, the last F1 race held at the circuit. The race was won by Niki Lauda from ninth place on the grid - the Austrian's second win of the season in only his second finish of the season. Polesitter Patrick Tambay finished seven seconds adrift in second, while Nigel Mansell finished in third. Championship leader, Alain Prost, finished outside of the points in 7th, while World Champion, Nelson Piquet retired early on with a turbo failure. The result left Prost only six points clear of Lauda at the top of the World Drivers' Championship, with 11 races remaining. McLaren extended their lead in the Constructors' Championship to 20 points over Ferrari. __TOC__
