With the moon landing in 1970 the ESA is interested in getting a moon car for astronauts to use. Europan company Ferrari is selected to build the car. At first its plans are very flamboyant but the final design is a simple frame with 4 seats. This car was used for the Luna 6, 7, 8 and 9 missions. In 1981-82 a new Lunar Car was built and was shipped to the moon in 1983 for use with the Habitas Program. In 1997 a new Lunar car, based on the 1980s model was built.
