  • At criminal get togethers, he is constantly mocked by such villains as The Joker, Two-Face and Poison Ivy for not being scary without his mask and drugs. He's not as clever or well read as The Riddler, nor is he as wealthy or respected as The Penguin nor even as good a psychologist as Harley Quinn. Catwoman uses him as a scratching post and periodically breaks into his home to rob him, but he gets along well with Bane due to their mutually indecipherable muffled mutterings, and the two will have long conversations in Latin and other languages. Assuming he has an ample supply of a drug that makes you afraid of anything, Scarecrow is easily one of the most feared villains in all of Gotham City.

  • In Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba suspects that the Scarecrow was her lover Fiyero coming back to her in a disguise. Like in the original 1900 book by Baum and the 1939 movie by MGM, the Witch has her Flying Monkeys rip him to shreads and tear the straw out of the Scarecrow's clothing. In Wicked, the Witch Elphaba Thropp does this to make certain if he was Fiyero or not, but the Monkeys only find nothing but straw. Despite this, Elphaba believes it could have been the spirit of Fiyero within the straw itself. It is left to the reader of the book to choose if the Scarecrow was possessed by his spirit or not.
  • Song Name: The Scarecrow Artist: Pink Floyd Album: The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn Run Time: 2:11 Year: 1967 Track Number: 10 Sung By: Syd Barrett Written By: Syd Barrett Info: * The song contains nascent existentialist themes, as singer Syd Barrett compares his existence to that of the scarecrow, who, while "sadder" is also "resigned to his fate". Such thematic content would later become a mainstay of the band's lyrical imagery. * A short video of the song (actually a short feature made for a Pathe newsreel) features the band in an open field with an actual scarecrow, generally fooling around. * A second video was filmed, with Gilmour replacing Barrett, in Brussels, Belgium, in 1968. * The industrial band Rx covered "The Scarecrow" on their debut album "Bedside Toxicology".
  • The Scarecrow began distributing aggression fueling drugs in Gotham just as Stephanie began her career as Batgirl. These drugs caused a riot in Gotham's poorer area that was dubbed "the Thunderdome" and Stephanie caught some of the Scarecrow's lackeys distributing them at her University's Harvest festival. Post-beating, one of the lackeys went to the hospital and traces of the drug were discovered in his system. On his way to police custody with Nick Gage, the lackey was surreptitiously rescued by his boss with a well aimed burst of the drug that put the cops out of commission.
  • “Yes they do, Jake, every one! And I want that first scarecrow replaced by sundown!” He shifted the heavy bag slung over his shoulder and cursed at himself for not thinking of something more clever to say. He clutched the stepladder in his other arm like a lance, and fantasized about different endings to the fight. “I do all the work,” he thought to himself, “and just once I’d like some say-so as to how and when things get done.” Striding up to the stoic figure, he put the bag down and planted the ladder. “Damn things last almost two months with proper care,” he fumed as he stepped up.
