Since the treaty of 2279, the natural border was the Glyrhond River. The Paqu avoided contact with outsiders. After her father was killed by the Cardassians during the Occupation of Bajor, Varis Sul became the Tetrarch (the leader of the Paqu). As well, the Cardassians used the river for mining operations and diverted the river twenty kilometers west, leading to a territorial dispute with the Navot.

- The Paqu was a faction on Bajor whose territory bordered that of the rival Navot. Both factions inhabited land that was some of the harshest on the planet. Since the treaty of 2279, the natural border was the Glyrhond River. The Paqu avoided contact with outsiders. After her father was killed by the Cardassians during the Occupation of Bajor, Varis Sul became the Tetrarch (the leader of the Paqu). As well, the Cardassians used the river for mining operations and diverted the river twenty kilometers west, leading to a territorial dispute with the Navot. In 2369, there was a land dispute between the two factions, which could lead to a civil war. A meeting between the Navot leader Woban and Varis Sul was held aboard Deep Space 9, mediated by Commander Benjamin Sisko. During the mediation, a compromise was reached between the Paqu and Navot, whereby the land gained by the Paqu was returned to the Navot and the right to free trade access to both sides of the river was established. (DS9: "The Storyteller") It was not stated whether the Paqu and Navot were nation-states, as they were simply referred to as "factions." The Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 122) identified Paqu as a village.
