Durchschnittlich werden Wookiees etwas mehr als zwei Meter groß und wesentlich älter als Menschen. Auf Kashyyyk leben die Wookiees in Städten hoch oben in riesigen Bäumen. Obwohl sie primitiv erscheinen, sind sie doch wohl vertraut mit der Hochtechnologie und kombinieren geschickt die natürlichen Umstände mit modernen Errungenschaften.
