- Slater is a member of the mercenary group known as the Gym Slayers, taking the mantle of the Rock Gym Slayer and being one of Conrad's second-in-commands. Conrad's best friend since before the Gym Slayers were formed, Slater was originally unsure about Conrad's growing hatred for the Pokémon League, but after Candice took credit for the discovery of Slummush (which Slater actually discovered), he agreed to help Conrad teach the Pokémon League a lesson, being the one who coined the term "Gym Slayers".

Slater was responsible for trying to cure Martin Fitch's mental disorientation after Scarlet Fitch's sacrifice, which manifested as self-harm.
