Having written an outline (including the names of 'Jason' and 'Alexander') for the strip that would become Terror on the Planet of the Apes, before it was taken over by Doug Moench for the rest of it's run, Conway was co-credited with writing on the first chapter of the story, in Planet of the Apes Magazine #1. Conway (initially with Roy Thomas) also wrote the early installments of Marvel's Killraven strips that would later be altered into an Apes story - 'Apeslayer' - for inclusion in the UK Planet of the Apes comic. Conway briefly served as Editor-in-Chief of Marvel in 1976, between Marv Wolfman and Archie Goodwin.
