Maeglin was an Elf in the First Age of the Sun in Middle-Earth and was one of the antagonists of The Silmarillion. He was the son of Eol who predicted an evil end for him.

- Maeglin was an Elf, the son of Eöl the "Dark Elf" and Aredhel daughter of Fingolfin. He lived during the First Age of the Sun in Middle-earth, and was a lord of the hidden Elven kingdom of Gondolin. He became infamous for his betrayal of the location of the city of Gondolin to the Dark Lord Morgoth.

- Nonostante le pressioni del padre, il giovane Maeglin grazie conversazioni con la madre venne a conoscenza della grandezza della sua stirpe, ma soprattutto parve interessato allo zio Turgon, venendo a sapere che egli era senza eredi, eccezion fatta per la figlia Idril Celebrindal. Ecco che allora in lui maturò la decisione di partire di nascosto al padre: un giorno, approfittando dell'assenza di Eöl, prese con se la madre Aredhel e, dopo aver detto ai servitori che si sarebbero recati in visita ai Figli di Fëanor, attraversò il Celion e si diresse verso Neldoreth. Infine, e con alle spalle Eöl che li inseguiva, i due giunsero ai cancelli esterni di Gondolin (PE 400) e vennero condotti da Re Turgon, il quale fu felice di rivedere la sorella a lungo creduta morta e al tempo stesso meraviglia

Urodził się w 320 roku PE w puszczy Nan Elmoth. Matka skrycie nadała mu imię (amilessë) w języku Ñoldorów - Lómion, co znaczy Dziecko Półmroku, gdyż został urodzony w mroku i cieniu. Imię (epessë) Maeglin (sind. Bystrooki) otrzymał od ojca, ciemnego Elfa, gdy ukończył 12 lat. Był przyjacielem krasnoludów. Wraz z ojcem często odwiedzali ich siedziby w Górach Błękitnych, Nogrod i Belegost.
- Maeglin was a planet settled circa 2276 by a "back to nature" Tellarite group, and remained independent of the Federation. In 2373, Maeglin suffered the first of three consecutive years of poor crop harvests. In 2375, the Maegline considered accepting assistance from the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, or from Androssi Overseer Biron. They eventually accepted the soil revitalization solution offered by the Androssi; unfortunately, it had the effect of creating a duonetic field which prevented any of the planet's electronic equipment from working. The SCE ship USS da Vinci then returned to Maeglin and were able to partially counteract this effect. Later, da Vinci chief engineer Jil Barnak devised a coating that could be applied to equipment in order to block the effects of the field.
