Previously, books were only published in hardcover, and often priced at several dollars apiece – beyond the means of most people during the Depression. The success of paperback publishing in Germany and the UK led to de Graff's efforts, which, being sold at 25 cents each, were much more affordable. In addition to carefully selecting his titles, de Graff sought to establish new channels of distribution, such as drug stores, five and dime stores, and department stores – all places that, prior to his efforts, had not sold books. de Graff presented his idea to several publishers before Simon & Schuster decided it was worth a look. Pocket Books is a division of publisher Simon & Schuster, Inc., which is currently owned by CBS, as is CBS Paramount Television, Star Trek's production studio. Paramount Pictures, Star Trek's former owner, is now at Viacom. Until 2009, the Pocket Books imprint was used for Star Trek publications in hardcover and trade paperback as well as mass market. In early 2010, Simon and Schuster announced that the Pocket Books imprint would be applied to mass market paperbacks only, and that a new imprint, Gallery Books, would be created for trade paperback and hardcover publications. The anthology Seven Deadly Sins was the first Trek title published under the Gallery imprint. Pocket Books has offices in New York, London, Toronto, and Sydney. It also had offices in Tokyo until 1999, and in Singapore until 2004. In some Star Trek books, an additional locale, related to the specific book, will be added to this list of cities on the book's title page. (See Pocket Books offices for a listing of these locations.) See also: * Star Trek fiction
