Life Steal is a frequently encountered trait on items (generally weapons). It allows the user to replenish their Life with damage dealt against the enemy. The steal comes from how much damage you do to the monster. So 5% Life Stolen will return 5% of the damage that you do to a monster to your health as life, adjusted by the amount of Drain Effectiveness the monster has. Life and Mana Steal only work on Melee and physical ranged attacks. There are several magical suffixes that enable Life Steal, so the effect may occasionally be found on Magic and Rare Items.

  • Life steal (LS) is an offensive stat that restores health to the wielder on all basic attacks, including abilities that modify their basic attacks (such as File:Lunge.png Lunge and File:Mystic Shot.png Mystic Shot). It is a percent of the basic attack, plus physical damage from modifiers on the attack (such as Spellblade), but not on-hit effects (such as Shock).
  • In the game, this ability is always labeled simply "Life Steal". On this wiki, the strength of the Life Steal ability is denoted after its name, for example "Life Steal -1", "Life Steal -3" and so forth. This indicates a File:Icon Resist.png penalty applied to the target during the attack. If no penalty is applied, the ability is simply labeled "Life Steal". Higher negative numbers are better (e.g. -5 is better than -4).

Life steal is calculated from the actual damage done to an enemy, after armor and all other forms of damage reduction. All champions have 0% base life steal. It can be increased with items, runes, masteries, and some champion abilities.

Higher negative numbers are better (e.g. -5 is better than -4). There are 4 units in the game that possess a Life Steal ability. Three of these are Fantastic Creatures from the File:Icon Death.png realm. The other is Ravashack the Necromancer, a valuable Champion. It is not possible to add Life Steal directly to any other unit, although Heroes may equip Magical Weapons enchanted with Vampiric (Item Power). This is intended to work the same as the Life Steal ability. In practice it is a rather weak imitation of the life-stealing powers of the Fantastic Units possessing this ability. Heroes are File:Icon SingleFigureUnit.png , meaning that they will fire only one Life Stealing Attack; moreover, the attack operates at base strength, applying no penalty to the target's File:Icon Resist.png against it.
