Blue Beetle manage to stop Jarvis, and sends the Scarab somewhere else, which claimed his life in the process.

The ensuing battle left all of Auron lifeless except for the scientist, now known as Evil Star. Evil Star sought new worlds to conquer and came into frequent conflict with the Guardians of the Universe and the Green Lanterns, including Hal Jordan.

Susan Ashwood and Fabian, members of the Nexus, attempt to persuade him to steal a book. He refuses. Meanwhile, Gwenda, his aunt, has fallen under the influence of dark forces. She kills her spouse Brian, steals a petrol tanker, and drives it into Matt's new school in a desperate attempt to kill him. Fortunately, he uses his clairvoyance powers and manages to evacuate the whole school before it happens.
