When the server is offline, no-one except staff members may access AdventureQuest. If you are online when the server is disconnected, Captain Rhubarb appears, logging you out in the process. While the game is offline, certain minigames are available, such as Zard Racing or AQ Space Invaders. The server being taken offline usually indicates an update of some sort, although old characters are sometimes deleted from the server.
