The Spacers were a loose sociopolitical collective among the Upsiders of the Sol System active during the middle of the 3rd Century PD. They chose their name to indicate that they had no interest in Earth. They believed that the ever worsening view of space activities by the Earth Union, combined with the slowly increasing self-sufficiency of the Upsider communities could eventually lead to Upsider independence by negotiated political abandonment or disengagement -- helped, of course, by the Spacer disinterest of Earth and the implicit threat of planetary bombardment.
