Signal beacons were part of the standard equipment aboard Lictor-class dungeon ships. They were located in the bridge module situated on the underside of the ship; in case of emergency, such as a prisoner revolt, the entire command chamber could detach to protect the crew and deprive the escapees of a way to control the ship. The signal beacon allowed for rescue.
