Cryogenic stasis, otherwise known as cryostasis or cryogenic suspension, was a form of stasis induced by exposure to low temperatures within a cryogenic chamber of some kind. For humanoid lifeforms, this caused sleep that appeared very much like death. The USS Enterprise-D encountered a cryonics satellite carrying cryogenically-frozen Humans from the late 20th century. (TNG: "The Neutral Zone" ) John Doe's forearm was kept in cryogenic stasis until it was reattached to his upper arm. (TNG: "Transfigurations" )
