An emergency transporter suit, or ETS, was a garment worn by test pilots that served as a homing device and transporter pattern enhancer. The bulky, mesh-lined jumpsuit allowed for the emergency beam-out of a person from an endangered spaceship vehicle, a function similar to that of ejection seats in some 20th century aircraft.
