Shadow came across Lyric the Last Ancient during the latter's search for the Lost Crystal of Power, and sensing Lyric's evil intentions confronted him. Lyric decided that Shadow would make an excellent servant, but when Shadow refused to work with him, Lyric placed a mind control device on him. (SCDC)
