The Dark Empire was the succeeding government of the Galactic Empire after the first death of Emperor Palpatine during the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. Reborn in a clone on Byss, a planet in the Deep Core, Palpatine established the Dark Empire. It was ruled by him and a group of Force-sensitives known as the Dark Side Elite. The Empire did not emerge from the Deep Core until 10 ABY, revealing itself to the galaxy. It was dissolved in 11 ABY after the last death of Palpatine. A former Emperor's Royal Guard named Carnor Jax formed a succeeding government, the Crimson Empire, which collapsed in less than a year.
