A character is presented as an archetypal Funny Foreigner with a ridiculous accent, extreme clothes, and a tendency towards weird food. They may even be an evil foreign rival to our local boy. However, the audience gets to see them more privately, and they are shown as a normal local, or at least as seemingly normal. They'll explain that it's all an act that makes them seem exotic, or puts people off guard, or it gets them laid. They may resent the act, and the things they have to do for it.
