The character's name is a reference to Prince's album Purple Rain and the film Rain Man. The character is a big fan of Prince (also known as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince), and his appearance and mannerisms are a parody of Raymond Babbit, Dustin Hoffman's titular character in the 1988 film Rain Man.
