Phillip the Tetrarch , also known as Herod Phillip, was son of Herod the Great and his fifth wife Cleopatra of Jerusalem. He was the half-brother of Herod Antipas and Herod Archelaus. He lived from about 4 BC to about AD 34, during the time of Jesus and Pontius Pilate. Herod Philip is mentioned as being the tetrarch of Iturea and Traconitis, which comprised a northeast portion of the land that his father had ruled over before his death . He married his niece Salome, who was the daughter of Herodias, best known for her role in having John the Baptist executed.
