Eliphas Levi (1810 - 1875) was a leading figure in Kabbalah teachings and wrote many texts integral to western mysticism. He was once a clergyman for the Catholic Church under the name Alphonse Louis Constant. He is best known for the 1854 book The Dogma and Ritual of High Magic. Levi is also known for connecting taro and the letters of the Hebrew alphabet.
