A neutronic storm was a plasma energy storm that could travel trough space at faster-than-light speeds. The Klingons could generate artificial neutronic storms; one such generator, based on the Fek'lhr-class starship IKS Qut'a'Dol, was used in 2401 to drive off a Lyran fleet.
