Gungi was a male Wookiee Jedi Initiate of the Jedi Order who survived the Great Jedi Purge and later became a Jedi Master of the New Jedi Order. During the Dark Times and the Galactic Civil War, he was instrumental in defending Kashyyyk from the Imperials and their stormtroopers and AT-KT walkers. He freed a thousand Wookiee slaves during this time, and was one of very few Jedi able to survive an encounter with Starkiller, afterwards helping out Chewbacca, Leia Organa, and Luke Skywalker in the Rebel Alliance against the Empire. He was also loyal to the New Republic and the Galactic Alliance, and fought hard in the Yuuzhan Vong War.
