The quest can be initiated by speaking with any of Skyrim's Bards, who are typically located in a city's inn or tavern. The bard will note that they were trained at the Bards College in Solitude and that "wanderers", such as the Dragonborn, should think about applying. After the quest has been received, the Dragonborn should then travel to the Bards College in Solitude, and speak to Viarmo to complete the quest.
