Jacob Colleton (c. 1894-1915) was the youngest brother of Anne and Tom. He served in the Confederate States Army before being exposed to high amounts of poison gas during a US attack whilst visiting the latrine. Some of his troops dragged him away as the rest of his colleagues retreated. Permanently disabled and temporarily blinded, he returned to Marshlands Plantation outside of St. Matthews, South Carolina. There he consoled himself by drinking heavily and abusing the servants. He seduced Cherry into being a semi-regular sexual partner who was also distracting him from noticing the growing rebellion on the plantation.
