Lumar was started in the 1930's by Louis Marx (a well-known manufacturer of tin toys) in Great Britain. Initially the only metal (tin) yo-yos were produced, with the manufacturer moving to plastic models in later years. In the 1950's Lumar, as subsidiary of Marx toys, also manufactured and sold yo-yos in the United States. Lumar yo-yos are sought-after collectors items, with good examples fetching very hight prices on auction sites.
