The film performed extremely badly at the box office. Having been made on an estimated budget of $23,000,000, it went on to earn only $20,000,000 in the United States and less than $52,000,000 in the rest of the world. Michael Caine famously commented about Jaws: The Revenge, "I have never seen the film, but by all accounts it was terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific".
