She is a friend of David Seville who agrees to watch over The Chipmunks and The Chipettes, with the help of Gilda and PC who live with her, while Dave is out of town. Lalu is very motherly and keeps her cool regardless of what the chipmunks do under her care. When one of the chipmunks does do something they shouldn't she coaches them to tell her what they did wrong instead of directly telling them. She does have some fun though as seen when she played as Captain Hook with Alvin.
