Mission: Hope4life is about building leaders to change the future. The Power of One – bringing together all elements of the community (business, education, sports, entertainment and media) to form a collaborative hub that equips youth with skills and tools to positively change their lives and communities. Through a “black belt” certification leadership process - we capture the youth within to unleash the fullest potential - through education, sport clinics, and other business programs, we develop thinkers, entrepreneurs – creating positive youth leaders that will ensure the long-term development and sustainability of our neighborhoods and society. We are about connecting community, curriculum and culture, using proven leadership and professional coaching practices, taking the latest education data and research to align what is learned on the field of sport – to the field of education – to the field of life. It's about embracing our unique talents and diverse skill sets in sport, education, media, music and business, to keeping it real and making a difference” Biography: David Bascome; Chief Executive Officer/Founder - The Hope4life Foundation David Bascome, born in Hamilton, Bermuda in 1970, started his soccer career with North Village club at the age of 7yrs playing the Forward position. At the age of 16, Bascome with the National Youth Team in Bermuda, before moving up to the National Bermuda team at 19. After that he signed his professional contract with the Harrisburg Heat of the National Professional Soccer League, USA at the age of 20. Bascome went on to play 18 seasons Professionally with the MISL/NPSL (Indoor Soccer League), winning 5 championships, playing in 6 All-Star Games. He played for the North Village Rams (Bermuda), Professional Indoor teams Harrisburg Heat, Denver Thunder, Baltimore Blast and the Harrisburg City Islanders, pro outdoor. He won his first championship during his 2003-2004 season with the Baltimore Blast, and than won 4 championships in the last 6 years with Baltimore Blast. He also formerly played for the Bermuda national football team, featuring in several FIFA World Cup qualification matches. To continue his love for the game, Bascome retired after 18 years, making a name for himself in the history of soccer. Bascome was named to the Player/Assistant Coaching position of the Baltimore Blast on October 12, 2006. In his second year on the coaching staff, Bascome helped lead the team to the 2008 MISL Championship. Growing up in a foster home and surviving an abusive childhood, Bascome earned a MBE from the Queen of England (Member of Order to the British Empire) for helping young people and playing professional. He recently became a member of the Champions 4 Champions, where he will join sport legends such as Sam Jones, Ken Easley and Ed 'Too Tall' Jones in supporting the community and the families of our nation’s troops. During Bascome’s off-season, he is the Founder and President of ISL (Professional Island Soccer League) and Hope4Life Program. The ISL program has been designed to help keep young men focused and off the street. The Hope4Life is an anti-drugs and violence program, where he does motivational speaking, which provides a great tool in his effort in overcoming his speech impediment. Bascome also writes a weekly column for The Royal Gazette news paper in Bermuda about sports and the perils of life. In 2011, the Global Center for College & Career Readiness partnered with international Soccer celebrity and philanthropist, David Bascome, to bring College & Career Ready development programs to Bermuda and across the Caribbean. At the age of Five, his family moved to Mwanza, Tanzania in East Africa where they resided for 2 ½ years. He credits Tanzania as the birthplace of his love for Soccer, Languages, Cultures and People. The rest of his childhood was in Montgomery County, Maryland. He then went on to receive a BA from Howard University in International Relations and an MA in History from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Michael then spent 8 years playing professional soccer before he decided to devote his time to Education. He entered the ProMAT program with Johns Hopkins and Montgomery County Public Schools to receive his Teaching Certification and a Masters in Teaching. For the past 10 years, he has been teaching High School History in the Montgomery County Public School system. Michael has also been very active as a youth soccer coach as well as a high school soccer coach. He has furthermore been the Director of the Bascome Pro Soccer School/HSBC soccer Camp in Bermuda for the past 5 years. But his relationship with David Bascome has spanned almost 15 years as teammates as well as running camps and clinics on behalf of Hope 4 Life and the Bascome Pro Soccer School. Michael has been involved with Hope4Life since its inception in Bermuda. However, he is not new to the world of non-profits nor to the world of creating change, as his parents are the founders and directors of AHEAD Inc, a global health and education initiative. Degree: Bachelor of Arts (BA) Major: Political Science Career Summary • 10 year experience in Secondary Education • 8 year career as a professional athlete – Pro Soccer Player • 15+ year experience in coaching youth soccer Biography: Marian O’Leary; Executive Vice President/Owner - The Hope4Life Foundation Born in Cork City Ireland, Marian is the oldest of nine children. A naturalized US citizen she became the first of her family to immigrate to the United States in 1987 during a period of economic recession. Ireland, during that period was an underdeveloped country and Miss O’ Leary empowered her family and friends to join with her in realizing the American dream. Four of her siblings reside in the USA, Minnesota, Florida, Illinois and New York City. Her father Willie O’Leary, entrepreneur, boxer and author of Cork’s 100 Years of Boxing – The Leeside Legends. Her Mother, Hannah O’Mahony,daughter of Cork City’s north side legend, business man, publican, philanthropist, “king of the Echo boys” – “The Governor” - Johnny O’ Mahony. The first of her clan to graduate from secondary school and college in 1984 with a degree in Instrumentation physics from the Cork Institute of Technology. Marian is passionate about her country and education, understanding first hand that it is the key driver to economic development, particularly in the areas of STEM – B (sport, science, technology, engineering, mathematics and business) and the impact on 21st – 22nd century careers. Marian and her family have been at the center of Irish economic development for decades. Her work as an executive and thought leader with Hewlett Packard, Microsoft Corporation, Apple Computer and others have informed her approach to community development, building partnerships between private foundations, public school organizations and business. A graduate from Leadership America – a globally recognized leadership program for women, Marian was competitively selected by Leadership and Corporate America to participate amongst a diverse group of women leaders in education, business and nonprofit from around the world, developing a broad, deeper understanding of the bleeding edge – urgent matters of our universe today, learning directly from top US political and business leaders and corporate CEO’s. She has an in depth understanding of Government & Education business and the alignment of 21st century solutions for college/career success joining “ Business - Education - Philanthropy”. Marian an entrepreneur, real estate investor and consultant has spent her 28 year career in information technology. Marian a noted leader and expert in data driven educational technology solutions, has traveled extensively to explore and research education issues across the USA, UK, Europe and Asia. Marian consults with global leaders in education, business and community leaders who are confronting the issues and daily social challenges of empowering, leading and educating young people. She works with government boards, community, sports groups and ministers of education and government. Successful strategic team planning, efficient utilization and management of resources, building community connections are her major strengths. She continues to demonstrate expertise in the areas of business development planning creating innovative community partnerships, enhancing relationships leading to sustainable growth. Miss O’Leary considers social entrepreneurship and responsibility key to long term success – building a second dotted “bottom line” equally committed to giving back to our youth and investing in our communities and people. Marian is the chief development officer for the Global Center for College & Career Readiness a research and training institute. The Center’s interests extend to the modern economic crisis of countries where education and economic development are viewed as critical elements to combat slowing growth and rising unemployment and crime. Marian is the appointed ambassador to the Blarney Chamber of Commerce and Cork’s regeneration project in Ireland
