| abstract | - Springfield, Missouri native James Ince has achieved hundreds of victories during his racing career ranging from the dirt tracks of the Midwest to the high banks of Daytona beach. Ince was tutored by legendary Midwest racer Larry Phillips' and served as crew chief for two NASCAR National Championships in 1991 and 1992 in what was known as The Winston Racing Series. The two seasons produced a combined seventy victories in eighty race entries. He then made his way to North Carolina and NASCAR's top leagues. Joining Roush Racing for the 1993 season, James assisted Mark Martin to seven wins in fourteen starts in the then-Busch Series in the famous Winn Dixie sponsored car. Later Ince moved to the car chief position on the number six Valvoline Ford. Throughout his tenure with Roush, Ince earned drivers Ted Musgrave and Kevin Lepage their career best finishes in what is now known as the Sprint Cup Series. Dale Jarrett's 1996 Daytona 500 title came with Ince aboard the Robert Yates team as car chief. In July of 1996 at the age of twenty five Ince returned to Roush Racing to become the crew chief for Driver Ted Musgrave in what is now known as the Sprint Cup Series. While the crew chief of Tyler Jet Motorsports, James experienced a memorable NASCAR moment that was not a win. Nearly claiming victory in the 2000 Daytona 500 with Johnny Benson driving an unsponsored car. In 2002 that same team earned its way into hallowed ground by winning a NASCAR Cup Series race in Rockingham, North Carolina. Ince guided Benson to his first career series victory in the Pop Secret Popcorn 400. Throughout his career, James has worked with and studied under drivers Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Bobby Labonte, Dale Jarrett, and Ernie Irvan to name a few. His professional NASCAR career has yielded upwards of fifty wins totaled from the Cup, Nationwide, and Truck Series. Ince simply has victories in every series in which he has ever competed. Team principles Jack Roush, Robert Yates, Larry McReynolds, Steve Hmiel, and Robin Pemberton have also shared their vast motorsports experience and knowledge with Ince. The 2003 I.M.C.A. National Late Model Championship winning car was produced from James' own chassis building business during its first year of existence. Travis Kvapil, Bobby Hamilton Jr., Hermie Sadler, David Green, and Rich Bickle, have additionally benefited from his leadership at NASCAR's highest level.
