  • The Black Guard, also known as abid al-Saifi (lit. Black Guard of the Sword Tribe), act as the guards of the city of Vanna and the House of Saif and also as warriors of the Sultanate of Karaganda. They consist of black men and women descended from distant Simoe tribes who were originally slaves of the Sarquil. As time went by and the sultanate conquered the desert elves, the black slaves became a caste of elite warriors who acted as trainers of the Sarquil warriors and as the elite guard that protected Vanna at all costs.
  • These soldiers are the veterans who had served in the rebellion which created the Leninist Dynasty and were conserved with cybernetic technology. As such, their numbers are limited and are not replenished anymore by recruits. Hence, when given to a field commander, there are usually strict limits places on how many of these soldiers will be available. The origin of these troops are manifold - there are former regime personnel of Russia, hired by the Rebellion, members of the mafiya and the troops of General Vasily who switched sides to support the Rebellion.
  • The Black Guard are recruited at birth from families in the Witch King's favour. These children are then educated at one of twenty Tower barracks. The would-be guards are routinely visited by the Witch King himself. At graduation each aspirant swears fealty to the Witch King for a period of 200 years. Those that survive this tour are rewarded with lands and wealth, many then becoming rulers, generals and members of Malekith's court. Some Dark Elves choose to remain as Black Guard beyond the 200 years, of these the twenty greatest are the Tower Masters.
  • A Blackguard epitomizes evil. They are nothing short of a mortal fiend, a black knight with the foulest sort of reputation. Changes: New spell list. Will require a rebuild to access new spells. These spells are not located in the spellbook, but can be found under special abilities.

  • The Black Guard ( , meaning "servants of al-Bukhari"), were the corps of West African and Moroccan soldiers assembled by the Alaouite sultan of Morocco, Moulay Ismail (reigned 1672–1727). The Black Guard descended from tribes of the south brought to Morocco from southern Africa, who were settled with their families in a special colonies, at Mechra er-Remel, to have childeren and to work as indentured servants (Haratine). At age 10, they were trained in certain skills; the girls in domestic life or entertainments, and the boys in masonry, archery, horsemanship, and musketry. At age 15 those that were chosen entered the army. They would marry and have children and continue the cycle. Considered more loyal than Arab or Berber warriors because of their lack of tribal affiliation, Ismail's soldiers formed the bulk of his standing army and numbered 150,000 at their peak. The Black Guard were mainly in charge of collecting taxes and patrolling Morocco's unstable countryside; they crushed rebellions against Ismail's rule not only by dissident tribes but also by Ismail's seditious sons, who defected from service as his provincial governors to insurrection as would-be usurpers of his throne. The Black guard were the personal guard and servants of Sultan Ismail, they might have also participated in campaigns against the European-controlled fortress enclaves dotting his empire's coast (such as Tangier, taken over after the English withdrew from it and distressed it in 1684 in response), although these kind of tasks were often allocated to European slaves (called Aluj plural of Alj, meaning "white christian slave") and loyal Moroccan tribal soldiers, considered more military and cavalry-able. They were well-respected, well paid, and politically powerful. Around 1697-1698 they were even given the right to posses property. Moulay Ismail always went about his court surrounded by a bodyguard of eighty soldiers, with muskets and scimitars at the ready in case of any attempt on the sultan's life. At his throne, Ismail was attended by a servant charged with twirling a parasol above the sultan at all times (a legend says that on at least one occasion, Ismail pulled out his sword and murdered an attendant who had allowed the sun to briefly fall upon his skin). Despite endless civil wars and civil slaughter, the Black Guard remained brutally loyal and disciplined through the turmoil of Ismail's reign. More than any other factor did they enable the sultan to remain on Morocco's throne for half a century. After Ismail's death, the quality of the 'Abid went downhill, as they were no longer paid as well. Some became brigands, others quit and moved to the cities. Subsequent leaders attempted and some succeeded in resurrecting the group. However, they were never as formidable as they were in Ismail's time. The main group was dissolved in the 19th century, with only a handful left as personal bodyguards to the king. The Black Guard name was changed to Moroccan Royal Guard after Morocco gained its independence in 1956 but this unit is not composed of descendents of the black slave since its members are selected from elite units within the Moroccan Army. The descendents of the Black Guard still work as servants at the King's palace, and were considered personal possession of the king inherited from father to son until Morocco abolished Indentured servitude at the start of the 20th-century.

According to the April 2013 Revision, the Black Guard is affiliated with the Illuminati. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, in a situation of economic despair and uncertain laws, the Illuminati backed various unethical research projects in Russia and China (the so-called Black Labs), making use of the extensive Soviet research facilities, documentation and well-trained scientists which now found themselves without employment. The experiments were first conducted on criminals, homeless people and street children. As had been established in Red Alert, only physically exceptional individuals were suited for the extensive cybernetic augmentation which produced supersoldiers (infact, only Volkov was upgraded in such a fashion during Red Alert) - Renegade has established that the vast majority of humans is physically unsuited for the upgrading to a military-grade cyborg.

The captain of the guard is descended from the first captain of the Black Guard, and currently the position is in the hands of Razoul the Merciless. The warriors of the Black Guard do not have traditional surnames; instead, they gain titles that describe their strengths in battle. For example, Ismail the Strong means that Ismail is a strong opponent who will not be taken down easily whereas Razoul the Merciless means that Razoul is merciless in battle. The guards have both men and women in their ranks. The Black Guards are fiercely loyal to the House of Saif and will give their lives to protect the sultanate from enemies. Few dare cross paths with the Black Guards who are known to be brutally efficient and skilled in combat. Part of the reason is that many of the warriors are in fact berserkers who eat a specific plant, Drakeroot, which makes them stronger and more fierce in battle. After the Battle of Vanna, the Black Guards relocated with the rest of the Sarquil refugees to Alent.
