  • On the Olympus, Admiral Dane was preparing to send the Bounty Hunters Samus Aran, Rundas, Ghor, and Gandrayda to such locations to completely eradicate the virus, but his briefing was halted when Space Pirates attacked the flagship. Samus was later able to cure Unit 217, who then helped her on her mission. It is assumed that the virus was purged from the remaining Aurora Units with the death of Phaaze, which ended the existence of all Phazon, including the virus. The name "corruption virus" was used by 242 when she briefed Samus on her mission to Elysia.

Text
  • A month ago, problems occurred with the Aurora network. Preliminary studies indicated a Phazon presence in the biosystems of different Auroras. The investigations led to the Space Pirates who seem to have captured an Aurora Unit. The loading of this unit with Phazon led to the corruption of the entire Aurora network. In order to prevent another Phazon corruption, the entire Aurora network was shut down. Unfortunately, there has already been considerable damage. We need to administer an antidote to corrupted Aurora units immediately.

The virus is thought to be digital, and not an actual micro-organism. This is because the vaccine is digitally transferred to 217, rather than physically used. It is also believed the virus allowed Aurora Unit 217 to be corrupted by the Leviathan, or that the program itself creates Phazon. The name "corruption virus" was used by 242 when she briefed Samus on her mission to Elysia.
