After the death of Heldin, Kolus is forced to flee with his friend, Kaltran Serv. The two go into business as bounty hunters, because of high demand for gun-for-hires. After a year of attacking Republic leaders and bases, Kolus and Kal are tracked down. The Republic, posing as the Techno Union, hire the duo to attack a fake base, and in an ambush, attack the two, leading to Kal's death. Kolus is then captured after a mass killing in rage, ultimately killing the Jedi responsible for Kal's fate. When the ship carrying Kolus is attacked, he has no choice but to help the outnumbered troops. After a damaging victory, Kolus and the remaining crew are lost when the Venator-class Republic Frigate crashes into the surface of Hoth.
