Mareel grew up on the streets of Khefka IV and later worked in an accommodation house there, where she met Verad; the two fell in love and she then accompanied him to Trill. Unable to convince Verad Dax to return the symbiont to Jadzia, Sisko attempted to convince Mareel, urging her to talk with Verad and see for herself how much he had changed. She refused, but eventually began to see the truth in Sisko's words. Mareel continued to plan her escape with Dax, but when Verad changed their plans and told her that she should wait for him at a designated rendezvous point instead of him waiting for her, she realized that he had, in fact, changed despite his assurances. After Verad and T'Kar prepared to leave, Sisko again tried to sway Mareel, who confessed that Verad lied to her for the first time and that she feared he would not meet her as planned. Taking advantage of her sadness, Sisko reminded her that the old Verad still cared about her, and that by saving Jadzia, Verad would be saved as well. Mareel ultimately agreed to help Sisko rescue the symbiont. After it had been removed from Verad, he felt troubled and alone but Mareel assured him she'd always be with him. (DS9: "Invasive Procedures") Mareel was played by Megan Gallagher. Mareel's hair prosthetic was a reuse of the Tyran piece worn by Farallon in TNG: "The Quality of Life" .While it was indicated that Mareel was an apparent native of Khefka IV, it was not stated that the planet was necessarily her homeworld, suggesting that she too may have been of the Tyran species. Mareel's name was included as a possible name for a baby girl in The Complete Idiot's Guide to 30,000 Baby Names and The Complete Idiot's Guide to 40,000 Baby Names.

Zusammen mit den Klingonen T'Kar und Yeto überfallen sie Deep Space 9 während eines Plasmasturms und nehmen die Notbesatzung als Geisel. Sie zwingen Dr. Bashir, den Symbionten von Jadzia Dax in Verad zu transferieren. Da sich Verad nach der Vereinigung mit Dax verändert, verändert sich auch sein Verhalten gegenüber Mareel. Er behandelt sie abweisend, und war er vorher noch unsicher, fühlt er sich nun überlegen und nicht mehr auf die Frau angewiesen. Als der Trill sich dann entscheidet, Mareel zu verlassen und sie diesbezüglich anlügt, gesteht sie sich den Fehler der Vereinigung zwischen Dax und Verad ein. Nachdem Verad sich auf den Weg zu seinem Schiff macht, übergibt Mareel Commander Sisko ihren Phaser und lässt ihn ihren Geliebten abfangen. Nachdem Verad der Symbiont wieder entnommen ist, steht sie weiter zu ihm. (DS9: ) Mareel wurde von Megan Gallagher gespielt und von Karin David synchronisiert.
