Synopsis
  • In Seattle, Egan, a cop close to retirement, and his partner get a call regarding armed individuals. At the scene, Egan investigates while Green Arrow watches from the rooftops.
  • When Egan corners one of the gunmen, he is shot twice just as Green Arrow lets fly an arrow which pierces the gunman's chest. When Oliver checks on Egan, they discover that the gunman was simply a boy shooting a paintball gun. They manage to get this information to Egan's partner before he uses deadly force against a second gunman. They call an ambulance for the boy that Oliver shot.
  • Oliver testifies at the inquest of the incident, admitting his part. The judge, while admitting that Oliver is not legally at fault, goes on a scathing tirade against vigilante justice. Following the inquest, Oliver wanders the streets alone, drinking and rapidly falling into a drunken state. Oliver's girlfriend Dinah Lance becomes concerned for his mental state, and calls their mutual friend Hal Jordan to speak with him.
  • Later, Oliver returns home, pours himself another drink, and then angrily hurls it at the painting of Robin Hood which reminded him of his glory days. He collapses in a depressed state, held in Dinah's arms.
quotation
  • Just some drunk. I'll have you know I'm doing my duty as a responsible citizen. See, every instinct tells me that I should kick your asses and teach you a lesson before you graduate to the big time. But no, that wouldn't be responsible. Be a good boy, Ollie. Sit! Stay! Bend over! Zap! You're Dead! Join the club.
