He is an orphan from southern Germany (apparently Bavaria), though the details of how he lost his parents are not revealed in the original version and only hinted at once in a possibly non-canon statement in a later version, where a fleeting reference is made to his father having been a Reich soldier who fled to south america at the end of the War. However, given the temporal distance between the war and Ole's life, this seems highly unlikely (the whole Bunker Age lies between these two points in time). He is twelve years old at the onset of the story and lives with his grandfather in a small farming village (later named Amalgosa).
