- Guitar Hero II is a rhythm game developed by Harmonix and published by RedOctane, originally released in 2006 for the PS2. While the original Guitar Hero was a relatively small title that happened to catch fire, GHII was a heavily-hyped blockbuster that sold exceptionally well, received pristine reviews and truly pushed the rhythm game genre into "phenomenon" status. In 2007, it was released for the Xbox 360 with additional content, and it was eventually added to the PS2 "Greatest Hits" line as well.

In 2010, Guitar Hero II appeared in the "Game of the Decade" contest, and it was the only game from the series to make the cut. After barely surviving its vote-in poll and receiving a 16-seed, it was placed in an unwinnable match against Super Smash Bros. Melee in Round One, where it only managed to receive 12.84% of the vote.
