Antimatter to the warheads on NX class starships is provided by the ship's antimatter reserves. The maximum yield is 150 megatons.

Compared to Klingon Photon Torpedo, the Photonic Torpedoes are faster and have better trackiong systems, as demonstrated when the NX-01 fired its torpedoes at a modified Klingon photon torpedo. In the early 23rd century, most ships were fitted with photon torpedoes. Photonic Torpedoes were given to and manufactured by the civilian market. Most photonic torpedoes are owned by less advanced powers, but numerous mercenary and civilian starships also have them.
