  • Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine. It is based on the theory that if a drug causes a symptom, creating a mixture that is constantly diluted until only a few or none of the original drug's molecules are left in solution, the resulting solution will treat that symptom. Homeopathy has no support within science-based medicine and has not proved effective in clinical trials.
  • See, this is how it goes: once upon a time (in 1792) a German called Samuel Hahnemann tried some chinchona bark and it made him feel feverish. Chinchona is used as a treatment for malaria (it is the source from which quinine is extracted and gets its name), so he reasoned that "like cures like". Obviously. Now, you wouldn't want to give someone a toxic substance like arsenic, mercury or dog shit without diluting it, so he came up with the idea of serial dilution. No, he went one better: he said that the more dilute something is, the more potent it is. Next, he spotted that patients on house calls did better than those coming into his office so he decided that the best way of "potentising" was to mimic the action of carrying the remedy around in his saddlebag, by banging the vial on a leath
  • Homeopathy is a system of alternative medicine based on "like cures like" principle, which states that what causes illness in healthy people can cure ill people. Homeopathis treatments mainly use the process of dilution, which starts with an undiluted substance, and then repeatedly mixes it with pure water or alcohol, leading to exponentially decreasing concentration. • Homeopathy (also spelled Homoeopathy or HomÅ“opathy) is a form of alternative medicine, first proposed by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in 1796, that treats patients with heavily diluted preparations which are thought to cause effects similar to the symptoms presented. Homeopathic remedies are prepared by serial dilution with shaking by forceful striking, which homeopaths term "succussion," after each dilution under the assumption that this increases the effect of the treatment. Homeopaths call this process "potentization". Dilution often continues until none of the original substance remains, but the base used retains a memory of the original substance.[1]

Homeopathis treatments mainly use the process of dilution, which starts with an undiluted substance, and then repeatedly mixes it with pure water or alcohol, leading to exponentially decreasing concentration. There are few potency scales which are being used: 1. * X scale (or D scale), in which nX (or nD) is defined as concentration of one part in \(10^n\) 2. * C scale, in which nC is defined as concentration of one part in \(100^n\) 3. * M scale 4. * Q scale, in which nQ is defined as concentration of one part in \(50000^n\) For instance, a 3C dilution is a dilution by a factor of \(100^3=10^6\), and 200C is a dilution by a factor of \(100^{200}=10^{400}\). Since there are many orders of magnitude less elementary particles in the Universe (about \(10^{80}\)), such dilution would be inditinguishable from pure water or alcohol, which leads to serious doubts about of any impact of the diluted substance.

Dilution often continues until none of the original substance remains, but the base used retains a memory of the original substance.[1] Apart from the symptoms of the disease, homeopaths use aspects of the patient's physical and psychological state in recommending remedies.[2] Homeopathic reference books known as repertories are then consulted, and a remedy is selected based on the totality of symptoms. Homeopathic remedies are considered safe, with rare exceptions.[3] Some researchers claim that there is scientific evidence that homeopathy helps in many problems and diseases. See also

One remedy is not enough. He invented a method of inventing new ones, called "proving". You find something, dilute it, give it to some healthy people, and anything that happens to them in the next month, is caused by the substance. Hence separate remedies for left and right wrist cramp. Having come up with the universal method of curing the miasms which disturb the body's vital force (the itch miasm being the worst, followed by syphilis ad gonorrhoea) he died happy. So a homeopathic remedy is a substance that has no actual connection to the thing that's wrong with you, diluted until none of it is left, dropped on a sugar pill and garnished with nonsense. And that, believe it or not, is absolutely true.
