It has a limited reach and causes low damage against monsters, making this the weakest weapon in the game. However, the plank is also the only one-handed melee weapon, making it the quickest weapon to swing. It is the most useful weapon and can be relied upon to dispatch most monsters until James can acquire a pipe found located in a car hood near Texxon Gas. The makeshift weapon and its low damage against monsters also adds to the helplessness experienced in the game's survival horror genre.
