- In Greek mythology, Amaltheia was a divine goat that provided milk and honey for an infant Zeus (god of weather, ruler of the Olympian gods) on Mount Aigaion on the island of Crete. Amaltheia was then set in the heavens as the constellation Capricorn. Amaltheia is occasionally interpreted as a nymph accompanied by a goat.
