  • It’s easy to forget now but Ron Powlus was the Joe Montana of high school football growing up in Western Pennsylvania just like Joe Cool, Joe Namath, Jim Kelly and Dan Marino. He won pretty much every award known to man after leading his Berwick High School team to a perfect 15-0 record, state title and mythical national title. His accolades included national player of the year honors from Gatorade, USA Today and Parade Magazine, among others. Powlus had a decent career for the Irish but never won a Heisman or played a down in the NFL. He is currently a quarterback coach for the Akron Zips.
