- Melanie Hill (born 11th January 1962) is an English actress who appeared in Emmerdale in 2005 as Avril Kent. She is best known for playing Aveline Boswell in the TV sitcom Bread. She has appeared in many other programmes before and since Bread, including Juliet Bravo, Cardiac Arrest, Finney, Crocodile Shoes and it's sequel series Crocodile Shoes II, Playing the Field, NCS Manhunt, The Bill, The Fugitives, Cape Wrath, Cilla, Waterloo Road, The Syndicate and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. Since 2015, she has been appearing in Coronation Street as Cathy Matthews.
