  • Order of Merit
rdfs:comment
  • The Order of Merit was an order of knighthood within the Cetagandan Empire awarded to Cetagandans and even foreigners (like Miles Vorkosigan) for outstanding accomplishments. The award came with a special medal specifically bestowed by the Emperor. It was given only rarely, and solely at the discretion of the Cetagandan Emperor.
  • It had a gold-bordered blue-and-white ribbon, and Stephanie Harrington was among those decorated with it. (HHA2.2: WPD)
  • Unlike the three senior orders, recipients of the Order of Merit were quite varied. Scientists, holofilm stars, distinguished educators, poets, authors, businessbeings, and leaders of charities were all recipients of the Order. Also unlike other orders, the Order of Merit was awarded in classes, not degrees. The medals for each class were identical, but each had a different color ribbon.

Also unlike other orders, the Order of Merit was awarded in classes, not degrees. The medals for each class were identical, but each had a different color ribbon. The medal was in the shape of a bronze, doubled piphulyoth wreath. Suspended between the piphulyoth sprouts was the Orhyo word Jedera in Aurebesh characters. The word technically meant "exemplary personal worth derived from service to a cause greater than oneself", but was usually translated simply to "merit" in Basic. All recipients of the Order of Merit were addressed with the style "Sir" or "Lady". They were also entitled to post-nominal letters, 1OM through 5OM for First through Fifth Class, respectively. Many (especially those receiving lower classes) preferred to simply use "OM", which was also considered correct.
