  • Gimmicks were first introduced by professional wrestling, but now are mainly used on message boards, such as THE BOARD~!. A poster's "gimmick" represents the particular persona that they have chosen to take on in order to get over. It is frowned upon to post anything to THE BOARD~! that you might actually believe, or be interested in discussing. The word "gimmick" can also refer to a pro wrestling weapon, or drugs.

  • A gimmick song is where the song has many "gimmicks" - Odd occurences in the song that don't normally happen.

  • A gimmick is a wrestler's personality and/or other distinguishing traits while performing. It can also be an implement used to cheat. In recent years, the emphasis has been on more realistic gimmicks (with rare exceptions such as Krimson Mask and cYnical) which portray the wrestler as an actual person, albeit with exaggerated personality traits, as opposed to previous years during which gimmicks could be best described as "cartoonish". A wrestler may be expected to portray many gimmicks during their career, most of which may be implausible or inconsistent. Sometimes a wrestler may undergo a complete change of on-screen personality from one week to the next.
  • This is the personality \ character that a worker uses when wrestling. Not all promotions use gimmicks. They can range from very subtle extensions of the person’s real personality to over-the-top colourful cartoon-like characters.

  • The dictionary gives several definitions of a "gimmick", but in relation to Transformers toys it is usually used to mean "a feature added to a toy to enhance its play value or make it more attractive to buyers". They may also be called "action features". Common gimmicks found on Transformers are: * Weapons, which may be static, deployable, or projectile-launching, * Interaction with other Transformers, * Electronic sounds or lights, * Articulated limbs, and * Transformation itself, or the lack thereof.

The term "gimmick" has a vaguely pejorative sense, and some Transformers fans profess a dislike for all gimmicks on Transformers. A look at the above list makes this seem strange; a truly gimmick-free Transformer toy would be no more than a static statue. Usually, however, the real if unspoken argument is that articulation and transformation are the preferred features, and others are unwanted because they tend to interfere with these favored two. This is most noticeable with recent lines, where a set uniform feature is given to all a given line's figures (such as Armada's Mini-Cons or Cybertron's Cyber Planet Keys), thus drawing more attention to it than the actual figure. On the other hand, these fans may believe that attempts to add play value are bound to make Transformers into Playskool baby toys instead of the adult collectibles they should be. How silly that would be.
