She'd been a widow since 1927 and since then she'd lived with her each of her six other children in turn, deciding where she'd be most comfortable to spend the rest of her days. Travelling with a battered suitcase and a cage containing her beloved stuffed cat Ginger, Iris decided soon after arriving at No.3 that the bed in the back room would suit her very well.

  • Iris "Granny" Chad was the mother of Billy Chad who dumped herself on Billy and Flo at 3 Coronation Street in 1933. Granny's presence put more financial pressure on Flo and Billy during an already difficult period. Granny helped out by scavenging the alleyway of Oakhill and was found frozen on the spot on the cludgy on 16th December 1936. Iris first appeared in Daran Little and Bill Hill's "Weatherfield Life", published in 1992. Other information is derived from Little's follow-up book, "Around the Coronation Street Houses".
